Discovering Columbus

We went to see the replicas La Nina & La Pinta. The ships are amazingly small! Each ship was originally manned with 30 crew members who not only worked on deck, but slept there too. The holds were only for supplies. I can understand now how, after months at sea w/o sighting land, the crew would talk of mutiny. That anyone would actually set sail on the open ocean in one of these speaks volumes of their bravery (or lunacy). The current crews number only 5 per ship and they have converted the holds to sleep quarters with a/c. The replicas are also outfitted with electric motors.
