The first-graders all went to the West Palm Beach Zoo. I drove down seperately with Isabella(Monica was in school and Dallin went to his dad's office). Isabella is great friends w/ a number of Sebastian's classmates because of all the time we have spent helping out in the classroom. Ms. Zeman, Sebastian's teacher, is great and so sweet to include Isabella in many of the activities when we are there.
This zoo was a lot of fun. It is not too big, not too little. The theme, as you will see in the pics, is the Americas. The walkways are very pleasant even with the heat & humidity because they are so thickly shaded by palm trees and tall bamboo.

This is a replica of a bald eagle's nest. The little monkeys sitting inside are the kids I chaperoned w/ another mother. The little boy in gray is Sebastian Fernandez. He and my Sebastian are on the same soccer team. Mom, see the boy in green? That is Jacob Santino. He just got his hair cut, but it is really as curly as Sebas' hair. He is Sebastian's friend Jacob who reminds me so much of Dallin's old pre-school friend, Jacob Fergan. I was looking at old pics. They really do look alike! What a funny coincidence!

This peacock strutted his stuff while we were eating lunch. He was only about 8 feet away from our table.
The flamingos & other brightly colored birds really caught the kids attention. So did the funny shaped beaks of the spoonbills.
Sebastian's favorite animal of all time: THE TIGER! Thank heaven for digital cameras! This tiger kept pacing and I took about 20 shots before I could get one w/ his face.
This little fox was smaller than a house cat. His big ears looked so funny on him. In the exhibit next to the fox was an exhibit w/ some sort of monkeys. We never did see them except for a black arm/leg in the trees at times, but they were so incredibly loud screaming and yelling at one another. The boys started imitating their sounds which paused the monkeys for an instant before the animals responded back at the boys. It was so silly listening to this conversation between the primates and the kids. Whatever the kids were saying, it seemed enough to make the apes upset! LOL
This is a WHITE alligator - not an albino. He is 9 feet long and was found in a bayou near New Orleans. He was named 'Mardi' after the Mardi Gras celebration in that city. His skin pigment is actually white and his eyes are blue! (unlike albinos which have no pigmentation) He was quite a sight to see.
